Columbia (MO) Rocket Club launch / motor test

This information comes to us from Mark Grant (markgrant@socket.net):

The Columbia Rocket Club is pleased to host a rocket launch this upcoming Sunday the 5th of March 10:30am till 4pm at our new launch site. Keep them under 6,000ft AGL. Tell me in advance if wishing to fly L or greater. This is a TRA research launch.

The Engineering team from SLU will be test firing an M and an O.
Should you need special launch equipment let me know in advance.
We will have pads, launch system, 1010/1515 rail and rod 1/2" and less.

Prior to Sunday best way to contact me is this email address. Sunday call 573-881-0122 if you need to talk or are lost. Directions below.

Mark Grant

We begin our instructions at the 151/22 intersection
in Centralia, Missouri. This is your last change for a bathroom/food/beverage.
At the intersection you head North. You come to a curve
that turns you 90 degrees to the left (you are now heading West).
Not much further and you see EE which you take right (you are headed North again). In 4-5 miles you see 124 where you
take right (you are headed East). We will be on the side of the road about 1/2 mile
down this road. Stay on the road. No driving in the field.

Day of the launch only I am on my cell
573-881-0122. Email me the rest of the time.
Texting is fine if my phone is on.

Heavy Metal-II, June 10-11, 2017 in Walnut Grove

We have finalized the list of contest events for this regional. They are:

G Helicopter duration (NARAM 59 event)
C Altitude (Altimeter tracked, NARAM 59 event)
A Boost Glide
A Parachute duration
A Streamer duration
Set Duration, 55 sec target

Hope to see a contingent from SLRA attend. I will also work on setting up a group hotel. It won't be the Lamplighter most likely, I'll try to get something a little cheaper.

Launch schedule updated

We are pleased to announce our launch schedule for the next few months. As always, please keep in mind that everything is subject to change or cancellation due to weather and other factors beyond our control; always log in to http://dmortproductions.com/stlrocketry on launch day before traveling to the field to check the latest status. You will need to create a user ID and password to log in and see our calendar and event details.

  • Sunday, March 12: High-power launch in Addieville, IL
  • Saturday, April 15: Model rocket launch in Valley Park, MO (Buder Park)
  • Saturday, May 13: Model rocket launch in Valley Park, MO (Buder Park)
  • Saturday, June 17: Model rocket launch in Valley Park, MO (Buder Park)
  • Sunday, July 16: Model rocket launch in Valley Park, MO (Buder Park)
  • Saturday, August 12: Model rocket launch in Valley Park, MO (Buder Park)
  • Sunday, September 17: Model rocket launch in Valley Park, MO (Buder Park)

Hopefully, the third time will be the charm for us at Addieville and the weather will cooperate. Unless we send out another announcement to the contrary, expect setup to begin at 10:00 a.m. and the range to open about 11:00 a.m.

Note that some of the Buder Park launches are on Saturday and some are on Sunday. This was requested to accommodate more peoples' schedules as well as to take advantage of the park being less crowded on Sunday mornings. We will decide start times month by month; when the weather gets hotter, we will start earlier.

If you have any questions, please email admin@stlouisrocketry.com.

Addieville launch status

An update on our launch status for this Sunday (February 26):

The launch is still ON, but we are watching the weather forecast closely. Right now, it appears likely that it will be overcast in the morning with rain starting in the afternoon. We are planning to begin setting up at 10:00am and opening the range by 11:00am, but our flying time will probably be limited by the weather, so arrive early if you want to fly.

As always, please check the St. Louis Rocketry Association website for the latest launch status on Sunday morning before traveling to the field. In the event of a cancellation, we will also make an announcement via our email list as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please email admin@stlouisrocketry.com.

Tuesday, February 21, 2017 General Membership Meeting Announcement

Two items of note:

  • After this month's business meeting, Rob Chapie will lead a short discussion about making research motors.
  • The weather forecast is looking pretty good for our high-power launch next Sunday (February 26) in Addieville. This will be discussed at the meeting, but at this point, it looks like a GO! Feel free to email us at admin@stlouisrocketry.com if you are planning to attend the launch and let us know what you're bringing.

SLRA is having our regular monthly meeting on Tuesday evening, February 21st, at our  meeting location: Google Map Link

Bandana's Bbq Sunset Hills
11750 Gravois Road
Sunset Hills, Missouri, 63127

We are continuing to meet at Bandana’s BBQ Sunset Hills. Even though Bandana’s Sunset Hills doesn’t have a minimum food purchase, we are encouraging members to purchase something to support the use of the room. We have the room from 6:30 to 9:00 and we’ll need to leave promptly since 9 pm is the closing time.

The room will be available at 6:30 PM and  the business meeting will start at about 7:00PM. We'll need to be out of the room by 9:00 PM (closing).

If you're a member of SLRA and are registered on the website, you can view minutes of previous meetings here: Meeting Minutes Page, The meeting minutes will be the basis of our "old business" discussion.

The standard agenda for all meetings is as follows:

1. Treasury Status.

2. Recognition of Achievements

3. Recognition of Contributions

4. Members expenses.

5. Old Business - please review minutes for last month's meeting for topics

6. New Business

Online and paper membership forms with payments received by mail to be processed by treasurer and president.

Please email admin@stlouisrocketry.com if you have new business for the meeting.

Addieville launch – new tentative date February 26

Our new planning date for our next high-power launch in Addieville is Sunday, February 26. As before, this date is tentative and depends on weather conditions. Please continue to check the website and watch for email announcements as we get closer.

Pads of all sizes will be available, from 1/8" rods to 1515 rails. As of this month, we also have a new, higher FAA waiver at Addieville - 17,500 feet AGL with no need for call-in windows! These new waiver privileges are thanks to the efforts of our Tripoli Prefect, Rob, for handling all of our communications with the FAA, and also to all of the SLRA flyers who continue to fly safe rockets and fly them responsibly.

If you have any questions, or would like to give us any advance information about rockets you plan to fly, please email me at admin@stlouisrocketry.com. In particular, if you are planning a certification flight, please let us know ahead of time so we can ensure that the right people are available to sign off on your flight.

Membership reminder

It's a new year! St. Louis Rocketry Association memberships are due by calendar year, regardless of when you joined (if you joined near the end of the year, you should have been charged a reduced amount). But this means that if you were a paid member in 2016 and would like to continue being a paid member in 2017, this is an excellent time to renew. Thank you to those of you who have done so already!

Your club dues ($25 per calendar year) support the club and allow us to purchase and maintain safety and launch equipment, which in turn allows us to run safe and enjoyable launches. As a benefit, paid SLRA members are not charged launch fees for our model rocket launches. (Launch fees may still be charged to both members and non-members for high-power launches when we have additional expenses for the launch, such as the portable restroom facilities in Addieville.)

SLRA Membership Form (online payment)

SLRA Membership Form (pay by mail)

As a reminder - paid membership is never a requirement for participation in our launches. If you come to us with a rocket, we want to help you launch that rocket! But we hope that if you're having fun with our club, you will choose to support us.

We also encourage flyers to join one or both of the national organizations (National Association of Rocketry and Tripoli Rocketry Association) for the additional benefits they offer, such as liability insurance.

If you have any questions about St. Louis Rocketry Association, or problems with your membership, please email me at admin@stlouisrocketry.com.
