Location for January SLRA Meeting

At the November SLRA meeting, a motion was made, seconded, and approved to move the SLRA meetings to the Sunset Hills Bandana’s restaurant.  I contacted the Bandana’s corporate office and was informed they now require a $300 minimum on food/drink purchase for use of their basement space. At an average food/drink cost of $20/person, we would need a minimum of 15 members in attendance to achieve the $300 minimum purchase requirement.

Let me know where you think we should have our January SLRA meeting:

1- Return to Olympia

2 - Rose Barrel (Baldwin: Clayton Rd & Kehrs Mill Rd) – No charge, good food/drink and nice banquet room

3- Fallon's (Olive & I-170) – No charge, good food/drink and enclosed banquet room

4 - Bandana's at Sunset Hills

5 - Other

Whichever one receives the most votes is where we have our next meeting

Deadline for input is December 29th

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts

Secretary Dave

IMPORTANT: Ellsberry launch – date change

We just had a quick officers confab to talk about the weather forecast, which looks really nice for Saturday and pretty terrible for Sunday. We came to the conclusion that a launch Sunday would probably end up being cancelled anyway due to the predicted rain, so we have decided to activate the high-power waiver for Saturday instead and move the high power launch to that date. Due to NAR rules, the contest launch cannot be rescheduled this close to the announced date, so the NAR contest portion of the event will be cancelled.

I know there were a few of you who said you could only fly on Sunday, and to those we apologize. Hopefully it will not be too long before our next high-power launch and you can bring those rockets out.

Everything else, (time, location, etc.) remains the same:

  • Our waiver will be open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The range may or may not remain open until 4:00 pm, depending on how many people attend and how many rockets we want to fly.
  • If anyone wants to get up to Ellsberry early and meet for breakfast, that will be at Rachel's around 7:30-8:00am, followed by heading to the field for setup.
  • Our waiver altitude is 6,500 feet AGL, with call-in windows to 14,500 feet AGL.
  • The club equipment trailer should arrive at the field around 9:00 am for us to begin setup. We would greatly appreciate as much help as possible with setup and cleanup, so please plan to arrive early if you can.
  • There will be neither food concessions nor restroom facilities at this site, but it is a very short drive into town for those needs (unlike in Addieville).
Launch fees will be $10 per flyer for the full day, or $5 if you are flying low-power rockets only.
  • We plan to have various sizes of launch pads set up, from the 1/8" model rocket rods up to the "Monster Pad" and 1515 rails.
  • If you have questions on the day of the launch (have trouble finding the field, for instance), Dan Welling (314-438-7823) will be the contact.
  • As always, please be courteous to our hosts and respectful of their property. Once we get on site, we will clarify where it is okay to drive and park.

Location and directions to field:
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1616154,-90.7682789,2917m/data=!3m1!1e3

Take MO-79 to Highway JJ, the first intersection south of the town of Ellsberry.
From this point, we should have signs up to guide you - but head east onto Old Missouri 79 (if you were coming north from the St. Louis area, this is a right turn) and continue straight onto the farm road where the main road takes another right turn.

If you have any questions, please email admin@stlouisrocketry.com.

Ellsberry launch – corrections

A few corrections to the announcement I sent out this morning:

  • I've been reminded that it's nigh upon winter (I don't get out much) and since sunset is earlier, the range will only be open 10:00 am to 4:00pm, not 5:00pm.
  • The monster pad will be available, since Mark McCord will be using it for his level 3 certification flight (Go Mark!)
  • Dan Welling spoke with the landowner today and he is happy to host us. The field is in good shape since it's been dry, but there is corn stubble on the ground that will have to be cleared away from launch pads and such.
  • If anyone wants to get up to Ellsberry early and meet for breakfast, that will be at Rachel's around 7:30-8:00am, followed by heading to the field for setup.
  • If you have questions on the day of the launch (have trouble finding the field, for instance), Dan Welling (314-438-7823) will be the contact. I'm unsure at this point whether I can be there.

If you have questions between now and then, though, feel free to reply to this email.

Thanks,
Dan Crank

Ellsberry launch – clarification

A quick clarification - Sunday December 10th is not confirmed as a high-power launch date in Ellsberry. We are still trying to coordinate with a number of people to find the best date.

If you are interested in participating but I haven't heard from you yet, please reply to this email and let me know.

Show of hands: winter high-power launch?

I just got off the phone with Dan Welling, who suggested we get a quick head-count of people who would be interested in a winter high-power launch in Ellsberry.

We have not set a date and Dan has not spoken with the landowner yet, so this is all theoretical right now. But if you would be interested in braving the cold to fly some rockets in December (or possibly January, if we can't find a good date in December), please reply to admin@stlouisrocketry.com and we'll see whether we have enough people to make it worth setting something up.
