Buder Park launch – Sunday, July 16

Our next model rocket launch at Buder Park is scheduled for this coming Sunday, July 16th. We are trying out a new schedule this year which alternates between Saturdays and Sundays to try to accommodate more peoples' schedules and also to hopefully have a less crowded park on Sundays.

There appears to be no real chance of rain in the forecast, but it will continue to be quite hot. Please remember to bring sunscreen and something to drink.

Setup time will be 8:00 am, with the goal of having the range open by 8:30. We will fly rockets for as long as people are there with rockets to fly, but as always, the length of the event depends on how many people attend. With the hot weather, I do not expect we will be there much past 11:00 unless we have a big turnout.

If you have any questions, please email me at admin@stlouisrocketry.com. If you need to reach me on Sunday, you can call or text me at (314) 630-7619.

SLRA Annual Election Results

SLRA's annual election of directors and officers was held at last night's club meeting, which also served as the annual meeting for our corporation. The election results are as follows:

Board of Directors: John Buckley, Dan Crank, Don Hanson, David Kovar, Jack Oney, Rodney Riederer, Dan Welling

President: David Kovar

Vice President: Jack Oney

Secretary: Dan Crank

Treasurer: Don Hanson

It was also announced that Rob Chapie is stepping down both as an SLRA Director and as Tripoli Prefect for Prefecture #56, although he plans to remain active with the club. We would like to thank Rob for all of his work in support of SLRA and our Prefecture, particularly in building and maintaining our excellent relationship with the FAA and obtaining our high-altitude waivers in Elsberry and Addieville.

In an informal election, Dan Welling was selected as the new Tripoli Prefect and Dan Crank as the new Tripoli Secretary. I will also take this opportunity to mention that Dan Welling has recently been named to the Tripoli Technical Advisor Panel (TAP).

Buder Park launch update

It appears to be raining at Buder right now, but the rain should be ending by 8:00 am. I believe we will still be able to launch, but one thing I wanted people to keep in mind is that it may be muddy. The park did flood last month, and although I have not seen the field since then, past floods deposited mud and silt that took a while to wash away.

Model rocket launch Saturday, June 16

We have our next model rocket launch scheduled for Saturday, June 16th, at Buder Park. The current weather forecast has about a 50% chance of thunderstorms, so please watch your email and/or the website for a cancellation, should it be necessary.

If it doesn't rain, it will be hot and humid, so we will be on our hot-weather schedule (range setup beginning at 8:00 am). We'll probably be ready to fly by about 8:30 am, and will likely be done by noon if not earlier (depending on how large a turnout we have). If you will be arriving after about 10:30 am, please call me at (314) 630-7619 to find out whether the range will still be open when you arrive.

As always, please prepare for the weather and bring sunscreen and something to drink.

If you have any questions, please email admin@stlouisrocketry.com.

Tuesday, June 13, 2017 General Membership Meeting Announcement (**see note**)

**Note** Don Hanson would like to consider a change to the meeting location and schedule. He writes,

I have a connection with the owner of Fallon's bar up at Olive and 170. He has a meeting room that we could use. But we would have to change our meetings to Wednesday. I just thought we might consider discussing this at the next meeting. It is a more Central location for all the guys who live up north.

We will discuss this suggestion at the upcoming meeting and possibly put it to a vote. If you would like input on this but will not be able to join us at the meeting, please email me at admin@stlouisrocketry.com.

Launch and meeting announcements

Summary:

  • Buder Park launch tentatively rescheduled to Sunday May 21 due to flooding
  • Our regular monthly meeting is Tuesday May 9 at Bandana's in Sunset Hills

Due to flood conditions in Valley Park, we are going to postpone our Buder Park launch which was scheduled for next Saturday, May 13. Once the park re-opens, I will go take a look at the field and see what shape it's in. If conditions permit, we will hold the May launch on Sunday, May 21 - look for another announcement next week with a go / no-go for that.
